When you’ve been diagnosed with mesothelioma, feeling depressed, angry, sadness even desperate are not excessive reactions. Suffering from cancer will certainly changes our life and affects mostly the relationships. But, surrender is not a wise word, we have to face and fight it as responsibility to future life. The firstly and most important thing is to have inner peace and then seek to get the best treatment for mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma Treatments

Treatment for mesothelioma in general could be divided to three group of therapies, conventional therapies, innovative or experimental treatment and traditional and alternative therapies. The choice of treatment is depending on or combination of type of mesothelioma, cancer stage, patient’s age, passion,  body and mental health.

Conventional Therapy

This therapy is combination with surgery (taking out the cancer), radiation (using drugs to fight the cancer) and or chemotherapy (using high-dose x-rays or other high-energy rays to kill cancer cells) This kind of therapy is very common use especially for the  cancer on stage I and II and have proved on average 75 percent successful in extending the patients life span more than five years

Innovative Treatment

Several forms of mesothelioma treatment such as the drug Alimta (pemetrexed), gene therapy (manipulating an individual’s genes to achieve a therapeutic goal), immunotherapy or biological therapy (repairing and stimulating, or enhance the immune system’s natural anticancer function), photodynamic therapy (destroying cancerous cells through the use of fixed frequency light to activate photosensitizing drugs that have accumulated in body tissues) and brachytherapy (Innovative new radiation treatment, that is less invasive) are still in their experimental stages.

Traditional Therapy

Many patients choose to add traditional and alternative therapies such as massage, acupuncture, aromatherapy, meditation or yoga even hypnosis to their conventional treatment approach in an effort to enhance or compliment the treatment process.

When advanced malignant Mesothelioma cancer has reached stage IV, the tratment will most likely involve keeping the patient as comfortable as possible.  By this time, the disease has spread greatly and a cure is not possible.

Consider to side effects, recuperation time and quality of life, if possible, conventional treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, must be the first options. Taking the various traditional therapies as additional treatment is highly recommended to speed up the recuperation process.
