The disease symptoms are experienced by an individual, they are subjective. Back pain, chest pain, fatique, fever and caughing are all symptoms. On the side of the observers i.e. the doctors, nurses and others, the symptoms are observable facts that use to find the subjective evidences of disease by the appropriate tests.

Mesothelioma symptom is difficult to diagnose because beside resemble less-serious conditions they’re also often do not appear for 20 to 50 years after initial exposure to asbestos occurred. Pleural mesothelioma’s initial symptoms may be mistaken for influenza and  pneumonia, the cancer may take decades to develop in the body  and some patients show no symptoms at all!.

The other difficulty to diagnose mesothelioma symptom, it’s not specific to the disease. Many mesothelioma symptoms are also other disease symptoms. The early symptoms are generic and non-specific that may lead to a delay in diagnosis.

Here below are several common mesothelioma symptom:

  • Shortness of breath

Each of four mesothelioma types, Pleural Mesothelioma, Peritoneal Mesothelioma, Pericardial Mesothelioma and Testicular Mesothelioma  has specific symptoms and will be described here.

Pleural Mesothelioma

This kind of mesothelioma type is the most common form of malignant mesothelioma develops in the lining of the lungs. Pleural Mesothelioma takes around 60 to 70 percent of all mesothelioma cases.

The symptoms may include: coughing, shortness of breath, lower back pain, difficulty swallowing, sweating, fever, weight loss, fatigue, swelling in the upper body, muscle weakness and pain in the side of the chest.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma

This mesothelioma type is a cancer that develops in the lining of the abdominal cavity and takes around 25 to 30 percent of all mesothelioma cases.

The symptoms may include: weight loss, night sweats, fever, fatigue, swelling or pain in the abdomen, anemia, diarrhea or constipation, nausea and vomiting.

Pericardial Mesothelioma

This form of mesothelioma develops in the lining of the heart or pericardium and takes approximately 5 percent of all mesothelioma cases.

The symptoms may include: heart palpitations or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, persistent coughing, fever, night sweats and generalized fatigue.

Testicular Mesothelioma

This form of mesothelioma is the rarest form of the cancer, less than 100 cases have been recorded in the last 60 years. Testicular mesothelioma develops in the tunica vaginalis of the testicles.

Because just the few cases recorded, the only known symptoms is the appearance of testicular lumps, and the lumps may or may not be painful.
