Asbestos Mesothelioma Disease
Mesothelioma disease is one of the cancer type and very deadly; it’s almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or they have been exposed to asbestos dust and fiber in other ways. Construction workers, electrical workers, machanical workers, aircraft, mechanics, building workers, shipyard workers, Navy and OTHERS are usually associated with high level asbestos exposure. The life span of the patient from the time of diagnosis until death is commonly less than 5 years.
Four of five mesothelioma diseases are malignant cancers, they are known as Pleural Mesothelioma, Peritoneal Mesothelioma, Pericardial Mesothelioma and Testicular Mesothelioma.
Pleural Mesothelioma
This kind of mesothelioma type is the most common form of malignant mesothelioma develops in the lining of the lungs. Pleural Mesothelioma takes around 60 to 70 percent of all mesothelioma cases.
Peritoneal Mesothelioma
This mesothelioma type is a cancer that develops in the lining of the abdominal cavity and takes around 25 to 30 percent of all mesothelioma cases.
Pericardial Mesothelioma
This form of mesothelioma develops in the lining of the heart or pericardium and takes approximately 5 percent of all mesothelioma cases.
Testicular Mesothelioma
This form of mesothelioma is the rarest form of the cancer, less than 100 cases have been recorded in the last 60 years. Testicular mesothelioma develops in the tunica vaginalis of the testicles
Each of mesothelioma disease has the specific symptoms, but they has several common mesothelioma symptoms as listed below:
- Shortness of breath
- Hoarseness
- Chest pain
- Weight loss
- Loss of appetite
- Persistent coughing
- Fever
- Bone pain
The mesothelioma disease or mesothelioma cancer is found in the lining of the chest cavity or in the diaphragm or the lung. The growth of the cancer could be divided into 4 stages. In stage II, the cancer spreads beyond the chest lining to lymph nodes. Stage III the cancer spreads into chest wall, center of the chest, heart, through the diaphragm or abdominal lining. At the Stage IV, the cancer has already spread to distant organs and in this condition the surgery treatment is almost impossible.
According to their symptoms, diagnosing mesothelioma will be started with review of the patient’s medical history especially asbestos exposure. Physical examination performs by x-rays, CT scan and MRI. The treatment could be surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy depends on type and stage of mesothelioma disease, age, passion, health and mental condition of the patient.
